Step Back in Time and Savor Tradition at Submarine 105

Our history dates back to 1979 when for the first time Albanian movie “Ballë për ballë” was presented in cinemas.

This film was describing the Albanian military base where between them was mentioned also Submarine 105.

In the film, it is further shown how after the severance of relations with Russia, where at that time we shared the same communist government system, attempts were made to hijack “Submarine 105”. Most of the film takes place in the surroundings of this Albanian ship where its internal infrastructure is shown. This was the first thread of our relationship with the submarine.

In 1980, in the Gjirokastra bazaar, the reconstruction of the premises began, including ours, which was different from most of the premises in the bazaar of our city. What made our bar stand out was the presence of a cellar that served as a beer bar, the citizens of Gjirokastra often mentioned the “Submarine” when they wanted to visit the bar and enjoy a beer together.

The film with the description of the structure of “Submarine 105” left an impression on the residents, who compared it to the structure of our bar. When we decided to reconstruct it again, we were thinking of a name for the new place and at that moment “Submarine 105” came to our memory like all the other beautiful stories told by our father and grandfather.

This is the history of the bar, how the citizens of Gjirokastra themselves chose the name of “Submarine 105”, what remains for us is the respect for the city’s history and the passion for the quality of traditional food.
